The great German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was quoted saying the following:
“All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking” and “Only ideas won by walking have any value”.
Throughout most of history, philosophers, writers, poets and great thinkers have found that walking offers additional benefits than just ‘getting outside’- it offers time, space and better productivity.
I highly recommend that if it isn’t part of your routine, this very ancient and very simple activity, should be something you consider doing for today onward.
When you are feeling stressed or under pressure – go for a walk
When you need to have a long conversation – go for a walk
When you need to take a phone call – go for a walk
When you want to be creative – go for a walk
When you need to solve problems – go for a walk
When you want to connect with a loved one – go for a walk
When you want to lift your mood – go for a walk
There is literally no downside to walking, only upside!!
In fact, walking is one of the only true forms of physical activity that doesn’t increase cortisol (the stress/energy hormone).
In one study walking in a forest environment decreased cortisol concentration!
If you love to drink 7 coffees a day, don’t sleep very well and work a high pressure job – This is especially for you!
You mind also find walking to be nourishing and refreshing by the open air and deep breathing.
Give it a go, I promise you won’t be disappointed.
