Habit Layering as I like to call it, also know as Habit stacking is something I’ve been talking more and more to clients about as we get deeper into weekly coaching sessions.
Why?
Well because when you get good at the basics, i.e eating good food regularly, moving throughout the day and scheduling in sleep protocols etc, then the time you allocate to your health starts to stack up and start working against you (unless you are retired or have lots of free time!).
When someone is healthy, both body and mind, generally they lead a pretty ‘healthy lifestyle’.
What do I meant by a healthy lifestyle?
Living a healthy lifestyle to me means doing all the little things throughout the day that have the sole purpose of impacting your life positively.
But again, when you build the initial healthy habits of eating well, training frequently and prioritising sleep some people tend to start running low on time.
Enter Habit Layering.
It can be as simple as identifying one habit you do and seeing if you can layer another one into it.
One of my awesome clients has now layered her morning journaling and gratitude into her morning water and coffee routine.
Another has started practicing his stretching and mobility outside in the sun whilst listening to a podcast – that’s some serious layering!
Whilst another has started working out (body weight or KBs) in their sauna!
Go through your day, think about what habits you can layer into other healthy habits or simply use the anecdotes I’ve provided.
Harness the power of layering habits this week and begin to form monster habits! Start slow with 2 or 3 habits, only do them for short periods of time, and slowly build up.
Use layering to get more bang for your buck with the intention of always moving towards your healthy lifestyle goals.
