Are You Supplementing With Zinc?

Fish Oil, Zinc and Magnesium.

Nearly every single person who asks me for advice on what supplements they should take is surprised when I mentioned these three. They are expecting me to say BCAAs and a fat burner!

Fish Oil, Zinc and Magnesium nutrients most of us struggle to get enough of from whole foods no matter how hard we try.

But it wasn’t until recently that I began to realise how crucial one of them actually was, and that I need to be a little more persuasive with my clients in regards to making sure they were actually taking this particular supplement every single day.

A little context first.

I’ve been working with a functional medicine practitioner here in Sydney who has been analyzing my clients blood work and looking for patterns so to make further improvements in their health.

Let me back up.

Functional medicine practitioners are like doctors however instead of prescribing medication based off blood test results like traditional doctors, functional medicine practitioners identify the root cause and prescribe a more holistic, natural approach to the problem – that’s my type of doctor!

Anyways, I’ve had clients complete their 12 week coaching programs with me and then get blood work done, which then gets sent over to the functional medicine practitioner who analyses them and then we have a call and go through the patterns and findings.

Long story short, 4 out of 5 times with my clients we’ve been told, “hey listen – it’s nothing to be worried about but start taking more Zinc”.

Or, “I’ve noticed blood marker X is particularly low – zinc will improve that”.

As well as, “This blood marker X may be a potential stomach acid issue – zinc should fix that”.

I was half expecting the next comment to be, “if you ant to lose fat and gain muscle, Zinc will help with that”.  Actually this isn’t completely inaccurate.

You see, zinc plays an important role in the development of metabolic syndromes.

In one study researchers found that Zinc deficiency was the actual cause of an individuals metabolism and calorie burn decline. When they supplemented with Zinc and brought Zinc levels back up to normal that boosted the individuals daily calorie burn by 900 calories.

900 calories!!!  Imagine being able to get away with an extra 900 calories a day simply by getting an adequate amount of zinc!?

Do this now – check your supplement stack.

Is Zinc there?

If not, add it to the shopping list next time you head out.

It’ll do wonders!
