Find An Accountability Partner

If you are someone who has been through the never ending weight loss and re-gain cycle, you are not alone.

I’ve helped many people get past that cycle, by diving deeper into behavior change. One thing is for sure, accountability is key for behavior change.

Accountability is all about not breaking promises to yourself and to others.

The way I explain it is really simple.  Accountability is ‘doing something you said you were going to do’.

And if you are struggling to achieve this then the best choice is to find someone to be accountable to. Whether you have lots of weight to lose or no weight to lose.

You don’t even need to follow a training program or a nutrition plan, it can literally be check-ins to ensure you are doing what you said you would do.

Here are 3 ways of finding an accountability partner:

1. A friend or loved one.

A parent/partner/brother/sister etc – even better someone you are living with.

This would by my first choice – someone who knows you – knows your personality and some of your vices. Because they care about you they have immediate buy in. Better yet, pay them $20 a week so that they actually take it seriously. They are there to make sure you do what you said you were going to do.

2. Join an online group

There is a huge trend towards ‘Digital Accountability’ on platforms such as Reddit or Facebook. People dealing with health issues find comfort and inspiration in accountability groups by having the chance to hear from others who are going through similar struggles. You have the added ability to keep things anonymous and private if working with someone you know doesn’t interest you.

3. Hire a professional

I myself have had the pleasure of teaching and coaching many individuals through my online nutrition training course. Once they’ve completed the online learning, followed their nutrition plans through and implemented their habits, the ones that continue to work with me as an ongoing accountability service are the ones that tend to achieve the best results.

Either way and whatever you chose, starting today find an accountability partner.

This person (or group) will help you keep the promises you’ve made to yourself, make you more productive and edge you closer towards your goals.
